Razor Mako 2.1 Reviewed: Nothing better than most 5.1 speaker kits

340313_bigAnother pricey audio system, the Razor Mako 2.1 is “as good as some less expensive 5.1 speaker systems”, said Reviewers over at PC WORLD earlier this week. To summarize the key test results:

The Good: Mako provides top-notch audio and does a good job of simulating surround sound. Downward-firing speakers bounce sound off your desktop surface for a more spacious sound quality. Impressive bass response.

The Bad:
Interference between speakers and table will distort or dampen the sound. Control pod can tweak only bass levels and volume. High price tag for just a 5.1 audio system.

The Bottomline: Razor Mako 2.1 produces impressive audio quality but nothing better than most 5.1 speaker kits. The price can also be a turn off. The rest of your $400 can be well spent on other improvement to your home audio system.

Price: Starting at $400.

Verizon LG Voyager Smart Phone Review: Excellent voice calls, Scrolling disappointing

verizon-lg-voyager.thumbnailPC World reviewed for the first time the latest LG Voyager from Verizon Wireless which looks like an attempt to be an iPhone killer. To summarize this review:

The Good: Compact and stylish LG Voyager from Verizon is a brilliant touchscreen phone. Flips open sideways to reveal a first-rate QWERTY keyboard. Includes built-in GPS and VZ Navigation. Voice calls are excellent.

The Bad: Fingertip scrolling is disappointing. Touchscreen and keyboards modes don’t play together at times. Doesn’t use Windows Mobile or Blackberry so there won’t have many apps available. Poor battery life at only 5 hours. Has 3G but no Wi-Fi connectity.2MP camera could have done better with a flash.

The Bottomline: This can be an alternative to the iPhone only if you can’t afford it. However, the LG Voyager can perform well and can be considered as one of the best multimedia phones by LG so far.

Samsung ML-1630 “lifestyle laser printer” Review: Noble ‘piano’ finish, but prints to dark

Samsung ML-1630PC Welt“, the German edition of IDG’s PC World magazine just published a review of the Samsung ML-1630. To summarize:

The Good: Speedy (up to 16 pages a minute). Outstanding quality for paper prints, especially at 1200 dpi. Noble black finish ‘piano optics’

The Bad: Prints are darker than they should. Photo print quality only average. Price per printed page: 3 Cents (€). Plus: Don’t touch the surface too much, or you’ll leave ugly fingerprints on this beauty. At least Samsung includes a special printer cleaning cloth .

The Bottomline: Great machine for design lovers and professionals or creative folks with simply lots of style

Price: Starting at $200.
